How to Sell Digital Products With No Followers (What Worked for My First Sale)

by | Oct 9, 2026 | Digital Products

When my phone said “You made a sale,” I thought it was a mistake. It was $27, and I had fewer than 250 followers on Instagram. I looked at that notification several times before I believed it.

So yes, you can sell digital products with no followers, or close to none. Followers aren’t what makes the first sale. A clear path from a stranger to your product is, and you can build that path before anyone knows your name.

Why followers aren’t what makes the first sale

It’s easy to think you need thousands of followers before selling anything. But followers and buyers are two different groups. Most people who buy from a small account have never followed it at all: they saw one Reel, an ad or a pin, clicked, and bought.

What you actually need is four things:

  1. A product people already want
  2. A store that delivers it automatically
  3. A way for strangers to find it
  4. A way to say yes without effort

None of those depend on your follower count.

What I actually did

Here’s the short version, because it’s less impressive than people expect. I didn’t write a product. I bought the Daily Income Blueprint with resell rights, put my name and cover on it in Canva, set up my store and followed the steps inside. The sale came from a small ad a couple of days after I started.

That’s it. No launch, no audience, no face on camera. The rest of this post is that same path, step by step.

Step 1: Start with a product people already buy

Your first product doesn’t need to be original. It needs to be useful and easy to say yes to.

A ready-made product with resell rights is the fastest way in, because the hardest part (making something worth buying) is already done. That was my turning point: once I had a finished product, I could finally stop planning and start selling. If you’d rather make your own, keep it small: one guide, one checklist or one template pack.

Price matters too. A stranger who found you five minutes ago will try a $27 product much more easily than a $200 course.

Step 2: Set up a store that delivers automatically

You need a place where someone can pay and get the file instantly, even while you’re at work or asleep. Beacons and Stan Store are both built for this. Upload the file, write a short product description, connect payments, and you have a store in an evening.

Keep the product page simple: what it is, who it’s for, what’s inside and the price. Every question a buyer has to guess at is a reason to close the tab.

Step 3: Make one Reel about the product

You don’t need a content library before you start selling. One clear Reel is enough to test.

Film a short faceless clip (hands on a laptop, a coffee, the product on a screen) and put a hook on screen in the first second. Speak to the problem, not the product: “You don’t need to make your own product to start selling.” Then end with one simple step, like commenting a word to get the link.

Step 4: Let a small ad bring the strangers

This is the part that made my first sale possible. An ad puts your Reel in front of people who have never heard of you, which is exactly the problem when you have no followers.

Create the ad in Meta Ads Manager instead of tapping “boost.” Boosting is quick, but Ads Manager lets you choose the goal and who sees it. Start around $5 to $20 a day and give it a few days before judging, because ads need some data before they settle. Not every ad works, and that’s normal: you change one thing and try again.

Step 5: Make saying yes easy

When someone is interested, every extra tap loses you a buyer. Two things help most:

  • An autoDM. When someone comments your keyword, an automation sends them the link right away.
  • A direct link. Send people straight to the product, not to a page with ten other options.

Other ways to sell without followers

Ads are the fastest, but they’re not the only way strangers find you:

  • Pinterest: pins keep sending visitors for months, and nobody needs to follow you to see them.
  • A blog: posts like this one are found through Google long after they’re published.
  • An email list: a free guide turns a stranger into a subscriber, and a few emails later into a buyer.

What I’d tell myself before that first sale

You won’t feel ready, and you don’t need to. $27 didn’t change my life, but it changed one thing: I stopped wondering if this works for someone like me.

If you have a product, a store and one Reel, you have enough to find out.

FAQ

Can you sell digital products with no followers?

Yes. Buyers don’t need to follow you. A small ad, a pin or a blog post can send them straight to your product.

How much do I need to spend on ads at first?

Many people start with about $5 to $20 a day and only raise the budget once an ad is working. Start lower if you need to, it just takes longer to learn what works.

What’s the easiest digital product to sell first?

A small, practical product at a low price, like a guide or template pack. A ready-made product with resell rights skips the hardest part, which is making it.

Do I need to show my face to sell digital products?

No. I’ve never shown mine. Faceless Reels, text on screen and a clear product page do the work.
